Alt Earth Volume 1 (a zine)
New Zine alert! "Alt Earth": A collection of images that reflect my perspective of the Earth and the environment. Through digital experimentation on film negative scans, a grungy, human altered landscape emerges.
Alt Earth: A collection of images that reflect my perspective of the Earth and the environment. My connection to nature is rooted in hiking and photography. Through digital experimentation on film negative scans, I capture a grungy, human altered landscape. “Alt Earth” represents an altered earth and an alternative Earth. Humans have done irreversible damage, but we can and do create innovative healing solutions to the climate crisis. Many images are shown as near negatives of each other. These imperfect reflections represent the hope and the despair, the damage and the healing. Looking forward to Volume 2? I’m open to collaboration and submissions.
Thresholds’ Evolution
Threshold beckons
“Thresholds” began as my thesis at the University of Michigan. A dark diaphanous dome floating in the gallery. Within the slightly shifting velvet and sheer drapes of the dome was a wood cylindrical box. Cold landscapes were contained within the hardwood box: 4x5 inch contact prints. Some of the photographs depicted black portals. Dark circles or spheres that added an unknowable element to the forests.
Mysterious portals and orbs persist in my imagination. They transform in shape and substance while I evolve through creative mediums.
Currently, my portrayal of thresholds arises through a mix of 3D modeling, photography, and animation. These portals take me to alien landscapes and abstract realms of organic growth. Film photographs ground the crisp forms with tactile textures. After a new orb takes form in Blender and it receives a photographic treatment, it begins to come alive with animation.
Where will the threshold deliver you?
